Further Details
The IDF entered into Khan Younis for a two day military operation aimed at putting a halt to Palestinian shelling of Israeli settlements. Ten Palestinians were killed in the operation. During this operation there were two specific incidents in which Palestinian fighters were killed by the IDF: 1. As Israeli soldiers entered into Khan Younis they came under heavy resistance fire. The IDF shot and killed five Palestinian combatants. Three men were Hamas operatives - Yiyhe Abu Bakra, 33, Shadi Khaider, 22, and Mohammed Abu Said, 18 . Two Fatah operatives were also killed- Amar Amar, 20, and Osama Tuman, 22 The second incident was a rocket fired by an IDF drone which killed four. Three of the men were Fatah operatives. Also a teenager was killed by autmatic gunfire earlier.

On Dec. 25, 2004, IDF soldier entered the Jenin refugee camp in order to catch wanted al-Aqsa militant, Thaer Abu Kamal. After surrounding the house in which Abu Kamal was staying, the soldiers called for all of the residents to leave the area. After Abu Kamal refused to come out , the IDF shot anti-tank missles at the house and then bulldozed it to the ground. Abu Kamal's body was found in the rubble.

IDF forces entered into the Gaza strip on Dec.16, 2004 in the deadliest IDF incursion, 'Operation Orange Iron' , since the death of Yassir Arafat over one month ago. Over 40 Palestinians were wounded and 10 killed by the time IDF forces left on Saturday evening, Dec.18. Along with the deaths, the IDF bulldozed Palestinian homes. According to Palestinian witnesses, hundreds of Palestinians were left homeless. Many took refuge in the local stadium and schools. The IDF says they razed houses that were being used by Palestinian insurgents and that the majority of the houses were not lived in.
